Microgrid Energy Storage

Today there is an increasing demand to reduce greenhouse emissions, reduce peak period utility costs and provided ample storage capacity to accommodate energy source outages.

These grid-tied solutions typically have a diesel generator as an alternate emergency energy source. The job of the energy storage system is therefore to store sufficient energy produced from renewable sources and/or alternate energy sources in order to provide that stored energy back to the equipment being powered for hours or days of continuous operation during the blackout periods. This solution provides uninterrupted power while reducing the alternate energy source operating costs.

Vortex ESS supercapacitor battery energy storage solutions are ideally suited to Solar and Wind generation applications. With its long cycle life (up to 20,000 charge/discharge cycles), they can be cycled and used multiple times a day as required.

Vortex BESS Microgrid

Vortex BESS solutions are available in two layouts to incrementally provide the number of hours/days of storage required (location dependent).

  • Rack Solutions for lower energy storage applications (50kWh, 86kWh racks). Multiple racks can be interconnected for greater storage capacity.
  • Containerized solutions for higher energy storage applications (up to 2.6MWh per unit).

Vortex BESS microgrid solutions include Vortex ESS supercapacitors, storage container, PCS (Power Conversion System), transformers as applicable, environmental control system, BMS (Battery Management System) and EMS (Element Management System).
